Hypertension is a condition which affects around 75% people in the world. Blood pressure – a force against the walls of arteries when rises to a certain high level is dangerous, as it makes the heart work harder to pump blood to the body and it contributes to hardening of arteries or atherosclerosis. High blood pressure increases the chances of getting heart diseases or kidney disease. Often called as the silent killer, it has no specific warning signs or symptoms.
- A normal blood pressure is less than 130/85.
- High blood pressure is 140/90 or higher.
- If the blood pressure is between 120/80 and 140/90, then it is called prehypertension.
