In this condition the body does not produce insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starch and other food into energy which is needed for daily life activities. The person suffering from this disease can also have hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, ketoacidosis and celiac disease. The complications related to this disease are heart disease, blindness, nerve damage and kidney damage.

Following are the symptoms of the disease,

Increased thirst and frequent urination : The excess of sugar in the blood stream pulls fluids from the tissues. This may leave the person thirsty. Drinking more water automatically leads to frequent urination.

Extreme hunger : Without enough insulin in the cells the muscles and organs become depleted of energy which causes intense hunger and some times it may persists even after having food. Insulin is the only medium through which the energy from the food reaches the starved tissues of different parts of the body.

Weight loss : Having enough food may still lead to lose weight. Without the energy supplies the muscles shrink.

Fatigue : The cells deprived of sugar may lead to tired and irritable nature.

Blurred vision : If the blood sugar level is too high the fluid from the tissues is pulled out including the lenses of the eyes. This may affect the ability to focus.
